Rooted In Tradition
Our Philosophy
Plants are among our oldest teachers. For generations, people learned by observing the natural world and building relationships with the plants around them. That wisdom continues to shape how we practice herbalism today.
To us, herbalism begins with the understanding that humans are part of nature, not separate from it. Our wellbeing is inseparable from the communities and ecosystems that sustain us. Relationship requires reciprocity. It asks us to respect traditional knowledge, support the communities that steward it, and participate in the protection and regeneration of the land.
Vitality is our natural state. Healing is often a process of remembering that truth and restoring the connections that help us thrive. It requires listening to our bodies, to nature, and to the lessons carried forward by those who came before us.
Traditional wisdom remains the foundation of our work. Kirstin’s lineage and background in Health Sciences and Clinical Herbalism bridge both ancestral knowledge and scientific perspective. Modern research continues to reinforce what herbalists have long understood through generations of relationship.
Kirstin Margaret
Founder & Clinical Herbalist
Before herbalism became my life’s work, it began as a search for purpose, happiness, and a deeper connection to life.
For years, I followed a path that looked successful on paper. I was grateful for the opportunities, experiences, and lessons it provided, yet I couldn’t ignore the feeling that something was missing. As time went on, I felt a growing pull toward something I couldn’t yet name.
That search eventually led me back to the world of plants.
Looking back, the path feels less surprising than it did at the time. I’m of Sicilian and first-generation Cuban heritage, and herbalism has long been woven into both sides of my family. Growing up, herbal teas, traditional remedies, and the use of plants as both food and medicine were a natural part of everyday life. My great-grandmother was an herbalist and midwife, whose path continues to inspire my own. In many ways, it felt as though I was returning to something that had been with me all along.
As I followed the path deeper into herbal medicine, I traveled throughout Latin America and the Amazon Rainforest and formed meaningful relationships with plant medicine teachers, Master Healers, and Indigenous families. Through their guidance, generosity, and example, I found myself remembering something that felt both new and deeply familiar. Herbalism was not simply an interest. It was the path I was meant to follow.
That realization did not come with instant transformation. The journey required years of study, dedication, perseverance, and formal clinical herbalism education. Along the way, I came to understand that healing is rarely about finding a single answer. It is about building a relationship with yourself, with the natural world, and with the interconnected web of people, plants, and experiences that shape a life.
Kirstin Botanica exists because of that journey.
The formulas I create are inspired by my Sicilian and Cuban roots, the wisdom of Indigenous medicine healers in the Peruvian Amazon, and formal studies in Western herbalism, Ayurveda, and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Together, these influences help shape both my approach to herbalism and my belief that it is safe to feel alive again.
Stewardship & Reciprocity
Honoring the Sources of Our Medicine
The source of a medicine is not separate from the medicine itself.
We prioritize botanicals from their native regions and direct relationships with growers, cultivators, and producers at origin. Many of our botanicals come from small farms and family-run operations working within the landscapes and traditions from which these plants originate. Place matters. The ecosystems and cultural knowledge surrounding a plant shape the medicine it becomes. For this reason, we invest considerable time understanding the people, places, and practices connected to every botanical we source.
This perspective shapes the relationships behind our botanicals. Our sourcing decisions support fair wages, local communities, biodiversity conservation, responsible wild harvesting, regeneration, and the preservation of traditional medicines. Through these relationships, we actively support these efforts and the communities that steward them.
Herbal medicine exists within a living relationship between plants, people, and place. By supporting the communities and ecosystems that sustain these medicines, we help ensure both the plants and the knowledge they carry continue to thrive for generations to come.
